World Autism Day

Mandi Franklin, CPNP

Today is World Autism Awareness Day.

Let’s take a moment to discuss some of the early signs of autism:

✔️Avoiding eye contact

✔️Poor or delayed communication skills

✔️Loss of milestones

✔️Repetitive behaviors

✔️Difficulty making friends

🔅How do we screen for autism?🔅

At every well visit, we discuss developmental milestones. We also use a formal screening tool for all children at ages 18 months and 24 months. If we have concerns, we may recommend a follow up to monitor or we may refer to a specialist.

Trust your gut. As a parent or caregiver, you spend much more time with your child than we do! When in doubt, bring up your concerns to your child’s provider.

Early intervention is KEY! 🔑
