Food Allergy Update: Sesame Now the 9th Most Common Food Allergy

Mandi Franklin, CPNP

Yesterday, April 14th, the United States House of Representatives passed the FASTER (Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education, and Research) Act to include sesame as the 9th top food allergen.

Food manufacturers will now need to label sesame on their packaging to alert consumers that may have food allergies.

This is a BIG deal, as currently, labels may have “natural flavors” listed instead.

For an individual with a sesame allergy, this could be fatal.

Does your child have any food allergies?
